Creation

The first Condou Hotel, a vast wooden building, came into existence at the beginning of the 20th century.

In 1912, the old cabin, rebuilt in artificial stone manufactured by the Bancon de parentis establishments, took the name Hôtel de la Plage. It underwent several transformations over its long existence and was narrowly saved from a fire by the people of Biscarrosse themselves. In the 1930s, seaside baths were in vogue, and the place was popular among wealthy Bordelais on holiday.

From 1925, the gallery was glazed to allow strolling for vacationers, and the establishment expanded in 1934. The rotunda, which still gives the hotel its distinctive character today, was added in 1948. It hosted Sunday afternoon tea dances that attracted increasingly numerous vacationers.

Finally, it was not until the 1970s that the building lost its steep tiled roof in favor of a flat roof.

Renaissance

Poorly maintained, poorly managed, over the years, it fell into disuse. It couldn’t compete with more modern establishments. The rest is history. It remained closed for several years before being bought by a wealthy Belgian, Paul Verlinden, to make it one of his second homes, much to the chagrin of the locals.

Before being sold in 2011 to SARL Pyramide, led by Mr. Kot, and specializing in real estate. This last owner entrusted the renovation project to the Bordeaux-based studio BUPA. « The objective was to reintegrate this century-old building into our time, while respecting its history, opening the facade to the ocean by dynamizing it with the addition of bow windows and bringing clarity and brightness to the rooms, making the spectacle permanent », explain the architects.

The original structure is preserved to comply with the coastal law, which limits the possibilities for modifications. As a result, 33 rooms have ocean views. A second terrace is added on the side to accomodate an infinity pool. The view, however, remains unchanged : breathtaking.
